Do You Have What It Takes to Be a Republican?

Do you have what it takes to be part of a morally bankrupt political party, with no policies except to cut taxes for the very wealthy?

Can you concoct a campaign strategy centered around reflecting and feeding upon the grievances of poorly educated white men looking for a scapegoat for their sorry lot in life?

Would you decide that manufactured culture wars are the path to victory? If you hated Title IX because it diverted funds from “important” sports, like boys’/men’s football and basketball, and couldn’t stand to watch “boring” girls’/women’s sports, would you have the nerve to say that one of the biggest issues facing the country is protecting the “integrity” of those same girls’ and women’s sports from the hordes of transgender women who will inundate them?

Would your standard for deciding that legislation is needed be based on the number of people who “are concerned” about a “problem,” based on lies you told them, rather than facts? Would you find that there is a “crisis” in “election integrity” that warrants making it more difficult for people to vote, but no crisis in the number of mass shootings that occur in America that warrants making it more difficult for disturbed individuals to obtain a gun?

Do you find that mask mandates (to protect public health) by governmental agencies or businesses serving the public are “tyranny,” but secret, unidentified security forces clearing crowds and beating demonstrators, along with police attacks on unarmed blacks, are justified?

Do you define patriotism by showy displays of flags (in the form of pins, clothing, or actual banners), rather than defending our democracy from insurrectionists (and investigating and punishing them so they don’t do it again)?

Do you consider people who display Confederate or Nazi flags — representing two groups who actually took up arms against the United States – to be American patriots?

Do you believe that the Second Amendment is the most sacred in the Constitution – and more important than free speech, freedom of the press, right to assembly, and right to petition the government?

Do you believe it is more disrespectful to the “troops” to kneel during the National Anthem in order to call attention to racial injustice in America than to directly call the troops “losers and suckers”?

Are you more concerned with how many people could theoretically be molested in public bathrooms if access is not strictly enforced according to birth certificate sex designation, rather than how many people were actually molested in the Ohio State wrestling team’s locker room and showers as Coach Gym Jordan turned a blind eye to what was going on?

Do you believe that hypocrisy is a virtue?

Do you rail against “cancel culture” – except when you are actively promoting the cancellation of people who have the gall to stick up for American voting rights?

If you did not answer “yes” to all of the above questions, you do not have what it takes to be a Republican.
