Frank Baum as Political Prognosticator

Who knew that The Wizard of Oz, one of the most beloved books/movies of all time, turns out to be a pretty good metaphor for the Trump Administration? The writer, L. Frank Baum, and the film’s directors, Victor Fleming, Richard Thorpe, George Cukor, and King Vidor, put together a fabulous story, but also symbolically predicted many aspects of the Trump Administration decades later:

  1. The screen door to Dorothy’s home literally becomes unhinged when she tries to enter the house during the cyclone, as does a window that knocks her out when she’s in her bedroom. This foreshadows how Donald Trump becomes unhinged whenever he senses a storm coming, from the Special Counsel’s investigation or elsewhere.
  2. Three of the main characters have (a) no heart, (b) no courage, and (c) no brains. While it takes 3 different characters to represent these deficiencies in the book/movie, Donald Trump has achieved this trifecta all by himself!

  3. Munchkins are prominently featured.Munchkins Lollipop guildMnuchins weddingMunchkins Group with Dorothy.png
  4. The “all-knowing, all-powerful” leader . . .
  5. . . . turns out to be a total fraud.
