Reasonable Accommodation for a Sick President

Trump lawyer and self-proclaimed “clever guy” Jay Sekulow is preparing a novel defense for the President to advance in response to the bill of particulars citing Trump’s high crimes and misdemeanors likely to be compiled and released by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. In short, Sekulow urges the President to assert that, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the government must make a “reasonable accommodation” for the President’s serious medical problems, including Alzheimer’s disease, ADHD, reading disorder, clinical narcissism, and other assorted ailments he is suffering from.

“My goal is to hoist the liberals on their own petard and make them and Mueller out to be bullies picking on a poor pitiful man who simply cannot help himself, given the various medical conditions that burden him.  Sure the President can be removed from office for ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ — but not for an illegal reason, and under the ADA, removal for a having a disease is illegal.”

When asked about the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, providing for removal due to incapacity of the President, and whether the constitutional provision trumped the ADA statute, Sekulow said “I’ll have to look into that and get back to you.”
