The White House released the following Easter Message from President Trump on Maundy Thursday:
Happy Easter to Americans all over the world! As we reflect on the miracle of Easter, many of us imagine what it must have been like to be there almost 2000 years ago to witness the Passion, death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
It’s tough for many to imagine being Christ himself, though I certainly can. But there are certain mysteries that are beyond our comprehension. Such as the betrayal of Judas. I wouldn’t just sit there, much less continue to eat, with someone who was betraying me. I’d say, “Get’em outta here — and rough’em up a bit on the way out!!!’ I would take him into custody, rather than letting him turn me over to the authorities. And the Last Supper itself — very primitive. They didn’t even have steak!
I can identify with the unjust punishment, suffering and crucifixion, however. I’ve been crucified by the dishonest media so many times. No one has suffered like I have. And, I too, am hoping for a resurrection — in my ratings.
I tell you, the one person I really identify with, though, is Pontius Pilate. Imagine the power! Just imagine it — it’s incredible! You decide the fate of the Son of God! You have His life in the palm of your hand; you can either snuff it out, or let it Him continue to live! Heady stuff. Now, I’m not saying Pilate made the right decision. I might have done things a little differently. But just the raw power he held was fantastic. Pilate was a real leader, such a strong man. I guess that’s why they named that pilates exercise program after him.
